Universe & Sample Design
We establish the universe size by market segment and use it as the framework for optimal stratification and sample design.
Foresight Household Panel
A continuous view of household purchasing behaviour across Pakistan, helping brands understand markets, consumers and the forces behind change.
The idea
A panel is a permanent and representative sample of the target population used to regularly and continuously observe and measure consumer behaviour.
Foresight has been running its Household Panel in Pakistan since 2008. Panel households are visited monthly and their purchases are recorded across the categories covered by the panel.
The resulting information is statistically projected to estimate overall markets and brand or category penetration.

From purchases to insight
Continuous measurement allows brands to move beyond a snapshot of the market and understand how household behaviour changes over time.
Who is buying my brand?
How frequently are they buying?
Where are we gaining or losing consumers?
Who are our light, medium and heavy users?
Which consumers are new, retained or lapsed?
How does our brand perform against competitors?
Monthly measurement
During monthly field visits, we capture detailed information about purchases in the selected categories, including the brand, product characteristics, quantity, price and purchasing context.
The panel process
We establish the universe size by market segment and use it as the framework for optimal stratification and sample design.
Households are recruited to represent key dimensions including socio-economic class, household size, urban and rural areas, and provinces.
Panel households are visited every month to record purchases across the selected categories.
Our BuPEI approach combines a household product bucket with an exit interview and pantry checking.
Purchase information is processed and statistically projected to estimate markets and penetration.
The resulting data enables clients to understand brands, categories, consumers, purchasing behaviour and market dynamics.
Our collection method
Our data collection is based on the Bucket Plus Exit Interview model. Panel households are provided with a bucket and trained to retain wrappers and empty packs of products used in the household.
We also conduct pantry checking to capture products that have been purchased but have not yet been consumed.
This combination provides a structured way to record household purchases and consumption-related information during recurring field visits.
